How to Guest Post Intelligently for Traffic and Profits

Learn from a prolific blogger’s guest blogging strategy.

You are here: Home / Beginning Blogging / How to Guest Post Intelligently for Traffic and Profits

September 14, 2019 //  by Ryan Biddulph

Well, it was a good run.

I had fun guest posting on blogs from multiple niches over the past few months, Making friends, increasing my exposure and seeing expanded success felt good.

But I have decided to guest post exclusively on blogging tips blogs going forward.

For starters, my fun feeling evolved into resistant work. Yikes. The last time I worked resistantly, I was a security officer 12 years ago. Blogging is for passionate people who love blogging. Resistant work is for employees stuck at jobs.

Blogging clarity nudged me to adopt an intelligent guest posting campaign. Who visits my blog? People hungry to feast on blogging tips. Who buys my eBooks and courses? People hungry to feast on blogging tips. Who reads blogging tips blogs like Blogging Brute? People hungry to feast on blogging tips. Guest posting here and only on blogging tips blogs connects me with readers, clients and customers who dig what I do.

I want to walk you through my crystal clear guest posting campaign when I am dialed in and intelligent so you can increase your blog traffic and blogging profits through this smart strategy.

But before we dive in to enjoy these tips, why would you guest post?

Why Guest Post?

I have X number of readers at Blogging From Paradise. Mike has X number of readers at Blogging Brute. Mike’s audience knows not Blogging From Paradise save those few readers who follow both blogs.

Can you say “leveraging”?

Guest post to reach large, highly targeted, new communities interested in your blog, products and services.

Start by setting the guest posting table.

Set the Table to Make Friends

Set the guest posting table by befriending bloggers from your niche.

I commented genuinely on Mike’s blogs for months and also retweeted his posts. Toss in multiple mentions on my blog and our friendship blossomed.

I did not ask Mike for anything during this time. I helped him with zero expectations.

Mike gladly invited me to guest post here after I asked my blogging buddies if they wanted a guest post from me.

Help bloggers from your niche and ask for nothing in return. Make friends. Trusting blogging buddies give skilled bloggers the keys to their blog.

Practice Writing Daily

Write 500-1000 words daily in a Word document. Trash the document.

Gain confidence and clarity in your writing. Write boldly.

Bloggers invite skilled, confident writers to guest post.

I turn down some guest post pitches because the bloggers simply do not write skillfully. No need to be Hemingway but at least make your point clearly and cogently before exiting stage left.

Publish Content Frequently

Bloggers need evidence of your writing skills in a public forum. Plus brand conscious bloggers need to know that your two brands align before inviting you to guest post.

Mike obviously noted my frequent Star Wars references and the fact I lived in a Star Wars cave home in Turkey. We clicked from that point going forward.

All jokes aside, publish content to your blog regularly to show off your body of work and to convey your brand message. Most bloggers need to vibe with your blog and brand message to lob a guest post invite your way.

Magnum PI

I served as caretaker for not one, but two lovely properties in a tropical paradise, house sitting in gorgeous Savusavu, Fiji and Bali, Indonesia.

Alas, I never sported the Tom Selleck Stache of legend.

I did however apply the magnum-like power of PI to my guest posting campaign.

What is it?

Pitch or Invite. PI.

I made friends by being generous, practiced my writing and published posts. 99% of the time, bloggers invite me to guest post on their blogs because they desire me to guest post on their blogs. My skills, brand name and exposure goad them to take the first step. 1% of the time, I pitch blogging buddies and see virtually a 100% acceptance rate.

Either pitch a blogging buddy to guest post on their blog or you get the invite without pitching. Or just ask bloggers via your blog and social media “Who wants a guest post from me?”, and beware the stampede of bloggers who accept your offer.

Guest Post Persistently

Like all things in life and blogging, good things take time.

Guest post persistently on blogs from your niche. Do a good job each time. Solve reader problems. Respond to as many comments as possible. Promote guest posts on social media. Treat guest posts as your own.

Passionate, generous guest posting yields immense benefits over the long haul.

What About Traffic and Profits?

Large, ever growing communities of readers interested in what you do find you through guest posting. Some click your blog post link – increasing your blog traffic – and some buy your stuff or hire you – increasing your blogging profits – to prosper you.

No need to do so much on the backend when you actually write and submit the post if you put generous energy into the front end of making friends, practicing your writing and publishing posts frequently to your blog.

Summary

Target your guest posting campaign.

Blog intelligently to connect with large, interested audiences.

Guest posting may be the most effective way to increase your blog traffic and profits if you do it right.
